Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) has been recognized for its exceptional safety record and transformative water reuse program management at the annual Water Environment Federation's (WEF) annual technical conference (WEFTEC). PBCWUD received two national accolades: the “WEF Safety Award" for Operational and Design Excellence and “Utility of the Future Today" for its groundbreaking work in water reuse.

“We are honored to receive both of these prestigious national awards," said Utility Director Ali Bayat, P.E., PMP. "As a best-in-class utility, we are committed to implementing the most innovative and sustainable strategies for managing our resources for the benefit of Palm Beach County's residents today and in the future."

The “Utility of the Future Today" program was jointly established in 2016 by the WEF, Water Research Foundation, National Association of Clean Water Agencies, WateReuse Association and U.S. Water Alliance to recognize water utilities engaged in advancing resource efficiency and recovery and establishing resilient, sustainable and livable communities.

The WEF Safety Award was received following a rigorous review of PBCWUD's safety program and work environments across the utility's network of plants providing water treatment and wastewater collection services.

PBCWUD Utility Safety Coordinator Matt Divine, C.I.H., received the award from WEF's Immediate Past President Ifetayo Venner, P.E.  “We strive to impart a culture of safety across the utility," said Divine. “To be recognized for our safety-first approach is an honor."
