The department announces that it has completed a rigorous review process to receive the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 55001 certification. ISO 55001 is an asset management system standard to which organizations manage the lifecycle of assets.

In addition to being the first water utility, PBCWUD is one of only seven organizations known in North America to be awarded this certification. “This certification is a testament of the PBCWUD team's commitment that the asset management framework is carried out in all aspects of our day-to-day activities to ensure water quality, safety, and reliability to our customers and stakeholders," said PBCWUD Utility Director Ali Bayat.

The process began in 2016 with the creation of an asset improvement plan that included more than 2,000 labor hours, the successful implementation of a computerized maintenance management system, and a comprehensive change management strategy.

Assistant Utility Director John Acton credits this achievement to the commitment of the entire PBCWUD team. “It takes a talented team to achieve such an esteemed certification," Acton said. “From leadership's vision, to the work and dedication of every PBCWUD team member, this certification shows our commitment to transforming the utility towards a performance-driven culture."
