​The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) was presented with four awards by the Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) on Tuesday, April 28. Originally to be held at the annual Florida Water Resources Conference, the awards ceremony was conducted virtually due to the cancellation of the conference amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statewide organization bestows annual honors upon a diverse array of utilities serving the water and wastewater needs of Florida residents. PBCWUD received two Earle B. Phelps Awards for Outstanding Wastewater Treatment Facilities performance, for the utility's plants in both Pahokee and Belle Glade which serve the Tri-Cities.  The Phelps award recognizes wastewater treatment facilities which have maintained the highest removal of pollution-causing constituents prior to discharge of treated effluent.   

The utility's Southern Region Water Reclamation Facility (SRWRF) in Boynton Beach received the David W. York Reuse Award. PBCWUD was also honored with the 2020 Collection System of the Year Award in the large system category for its dedication to providing its residents superior wastewater collection and water distribution services.

PBCWUD serves nearly 600,000 County residents across more than 193,000 connections. PBCWUD's service area covers more than 1,300 square miles of Palm Beach County.
