​The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) and Globaltech, Inc. were presented with the award for Best Overall in the Water/Wastewater Category from the Design-Build Institute of America Florida Region (DBIA FL) "Design-Build Project of the Year Awards" for the PBCWUD Optimization and Improvements Continuing Design-Build Contract 2015-2018.

The DBIA FL statewide competition recognized PBCWUD as a "regional leader" for the three-year project with the Boca Raton-based Globaltech, Inc., a design-build, engineering and construction company serving water and wastewater utilities.

Design-build is a project delivery method in which one entity oversees all aspects of the design, engineering and construction phases, eliminating the need for the client to engage with multiple contractors and subcontractors. This single-source contracting method allowed PCBWUD and Globaltech, Inc. to collaborate as a team, keeping the contract on schedule and on budget, resulting in the award from DBIA FL - the first continuing contract to receive such recognition.

PBCWUD and Globaltech, Inc. developed an innovative, continuing design-build contract to streamline capital improvement projects, reducing scheduling time and costs. A total of 16 projects, valued at $16,303,668, spanned water and wastewater treatment, storage, and pumping facilities.

Globaltech, Inc. met PBCWUD's goals and budget, while using design-build best practices throughout the term of the contract. DBIA FL recognized PBCWUD as "a regional leader in deploying this method of project delivery…and has fostered adaptation of this delivery method by surrounding utilities."
