Water Quality FAQs

Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department is divided into two distribution systems, Eastern and Western.

The Eastern distribution system sources water from wells extending approximately 150 feet underground into the surficial aquifer. This is a safe and reliable source, providing high-quality water that is free of the microorganisms sometimes found in lakes and rivers.

The Western distribution system sources its water from wells extending approximately 1,400 feet underground into the Floridan Aquifer. This well water is pumped under high pressure through a low-pressure reverse osmosis system that purifies the water.

Palm Beach County Water Utilities consistently exceeds all water quality standards for local, state, and federal regulations. Our dedicated team of professionals work seven days a week and 24 hours per day to provide our customers with clean, reliable, drinking water, every time you turn on the tap. For more information, please refer to our Annual Water Quality Report. (Sometimes called the Consumer Confidence Report.)

Water temperature at the tap is affected by environmental factors, Florida is a warmer climate and can never be as cold as the tap water in northern climates. If you prefer your water cold, we recommend you refrigerate a container of water for your pleasure.
