American Society of Civil Engineers Awards WUD "Project of the Year"

Body

Women holding award for ASCE recognized PBCWUD for its Water Treatment Plant The Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) received the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Florida Section Project of the Year award during a virtual ceremony Wednesday, November 4.

The ASCE recognized PBCWUD for its Water Treatment Plant No. 8 Anion Exchange (AIX) project, which expanded the existing 10 million gallons a day (MGD) AIX infrastructure to 30 MGD. The $15 million project was constructed outside the perimeter of the existing treatment plant, which reduced impact on the water treatment plant and allowed it to remain operational throughout the construction.

The anion exchange system removes naturally occurring organics from the raw water, making it an important component of the water disinfection process. The new 30 MGD capacity makes PBCWUD's Water Treatment Plant No. 8 the largest organic AIX removal system in the United States.

PBCWUD provides drinking water, reclaimed water and wastewater services to approximately 595,000 residents of Palm Beach County.
