Accessibility for Persons With Disabilities
Return to General Information
The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department is firmly committed to the spirit of and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We remove the barriers, whether you’re on a playground, at a waterpark, or enjoying a picnic. Do you have a special need? Certified staff are available to assist you.
Beach Accessibility
Beach wheelchairs and mobi mats are available at several county beach parks for wheelchair users and people with mobility impairment.
Please contact a lifeguard upon arrival at each location (displaying this symbol
) to arrange for use. Please note that lifeguards are not permitted to assist in transferring an individual from a personal wheelchair to the beach wheelchair. A companion must be available to provide assistance in getting in and out of wheelchairs and using the beach wheelchair on the sand.
There will be occasions in which beach access is unavailable due to beach erosion or construction, or there might not be enough sand to safely use the beach wheelchair or Mobi Mat. We strongly recommend that you call in advance to ensure the beach wheelchair and Mobi Mat is available for safe use.
Barrier-Free Playgrounds
Colorful, sensory-rich, barrier-free play areas provide opportunities for children with and without disabilities to play together side-by-side.
Wheelchair Exercise Course
Individuals with disabilities are also encouraged to participate in
general recreation classes offered through the Parks and Recreation Department. If a reasonable accommodation is necessary to participate, the request can be made to program staff or through the
Therapeutic Recreation Section. For further information on accessibility, please call (561) 966-7015.
