ACC Comparative Study on Shelter Renovation - Update – February 12, 2020

The consultant team for the Animal Care and Control (ACC) facility delivered three design solutions as part of its latest draft version of the Comparative Study.  The three solutions incorporate the animal welfare best practices that surfaced during the public meetings and industry charrettes, and significantly exceed the existing budget appropriation for the project.  The consultant has been tasked with developing a fourth option that better matches current funding allocation while Staff is working on an analysis of possible supplemental funding sources. Additional time is needed to complete both tasks; therefore, the Workshop planned for February 25, 2020 will be rescheduled for a later date, projected for May-June 2020. Once a new date is determined, timely notification will be provided  and back-up documents will be made available for review.

In an ever-evolving effort to continue operations, and to assist with limiting potential exposure to Coronavirus, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is implementing the following directives.

  • We continue to adopt out pets. Please visit 'Surf the Net—About a Pet' (SNAP) to view our adoptable pets and complete an online application
  • Owner Surrender appointments are suspended until further notice. If this is an emergency Owner Surrender please call us at 561-233-2450. In case of evictions, please bring eviction paperwork.
  • We are not accepting new volunteers or hosting volunteer orientations at this time.
  • We are not able to accept Community Service workers until further notice.
  • Pet owners are encouraged to renew tags online via PetData.com.
  • Beginning Wednesday, July 1, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control will re-open their main facility in West Palm Beach.  Although the shelter has been open and offering limited services to the community, the building has been closed to the public to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 exposure.  With the re-opening of the building all patrons will be required to wear a mask while on the property, in the building, and asked to maintain safe social distancing.  The number of family members coming to the facility should be limited to 1 or 2 people if possible; this will help reduce risks associated with COVID-19.

Volunteers are needed for the sixth annual Countdown 2 Zero (C2Z) Adoption Event presented by the Lois Pope LIFE Foundation. The event will be held on Saturday, September 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside the air-conditioned East Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach.

This is the area’s largest local pet adoption event and will feature hundreds of adoptable dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, rabbits, birds and more seeking new families and homes. Admission and parking are free.

Organized by Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League and Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, the Countdown 2 Zero Adoption Event is a collaborative effort of over 20 local animal rescue organizations to save the lives of animals in Palm Beach County. The past five C2Z adoption events resulted in more than 1,300 animals finding new forever homes.
