DUNE HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECT - ONGOING
East side of A-1-A across from Karen Marcus Ocean Park Preserve, Jupiter
From October 4th to October 8th 2021, crews will be working to remove invasive nonnative vegetation in the dune system along a 0.7-mile portion of the eastern side of A-1-A adjacent to Karen Marcus Ocean Park Preserve in Jupiter.
The following species are targeted for removal: Yellow wood, Sansaveria, Brazilian pepper, Carrotwood, Schefflera and Vitex.
The project is designed to have minimal impact on public use and native vegetation.
Once removed, the exotic vegetation will be mulched and spread around native vegetation planted in the open areas. Lighting impacts on the beach are not anticipated due to vegetation coverage from the undeveloped preserve to the west and the absence of streetlights.
Work will progress in sections from the street side of the dune only (not the beach side) with limited closure of beach access and parking spaces to stage equipment.
