 Who Owns the Road?

Roadways can be owned by a number of different entities. 

We maintain Palm Beach County owned rights-of-way only.​

Issues within State owned rights-of-way can be directed to the Florida Department of Transportation - District IV.

Issues within municipality owned rights-of-way can be directed to the municipality.

There are also privately owned rights-of-way within the county and maintenance is the responsibility of the private owner.

Our Road Atlas or online GIS system can help determine the owner of the right-of-way.

Construction Zone

Our Construction Coordination Division oversees the construction of the County's roadway improvement projects.  Our Road and Bridge Division oversees the maintenance operations on the County's roadways.

Traffic Signal

Our Traffic Division designs and maintains many of the traffic signals throughout the County to keep the roadways moving.

Our Tra​ffic Division installs and maintains many of the signs throughout the County to keep the travelling public informed.

Sidewalk

Our Road and Bridge Division works diligently to keep our roadside sidewalks and pathways in good working order.  Nature trails are maintained by our Environmental Resource Management Department or our Parks Department.

Our Traffic Division and Local Roads Section design many of the new roadside pathways throughout the County as part of the Pathway Program.

Street Light

Our Traffic Division maintains some of the street lights throughout the County to keep the roadways moving. FPL and municipality maintain the majority of the street lights within the County.

Flooding

New flooding can often be the result of a clogged drain.  Our Road and Bridge Division works to keep our County roadways' drainage systems clear of obstructions to prevent flooding.   If the flooding issue is not an isolated or new incident, our Roadway Production Division engineers can analyze the area to determine what steps can be taken to alleviate the issue.
