Petroleum Storage Tank Compliance

Picture of petroleum storage tanks that are aboveground

Petroleum products and mineral acids are stored above and underground at places like retail gas stations, marinas, airports, fleet fueling sites, hospitals, golf courses, farms, buildings with emergency generators, golf courses, and commercial/governmental operations throughout the state of Florida. Lack of maintenance, faulty equipment, or operator error could allow these substances to leak out into the soil and groundwater, South Florida's main source for drinking water.  Since 1988, the state of Florida through the Department of Environmental Protection has contracted with ERM to manage the compliance program for facilities storing petroleum products and mineral acids in Palm Beach County and in 2009 for facilities in Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

ERM provides the first line of defense and the highest level of protection for our land and water resources by  overseeing petroleum storage.
