If you want to be an Animal Hero and would like to help us save lives,  please consider becoming a foster parent or adopting one of the many deserving pets who are looking for a loving home. 

Please follow these quick and easy steps when looking to adopt:

 

1) Visit our adoption center in person during our business hours. You can view the adoptable pets and fill out an application for any pet you are interested in.  Don't forget to visit our Kennel 2 to view our pre-adoptable pets.

2) Once you've found a pet (or two) you are interested in, click on the "Ready to Adopt? Click Here" link to the right of the pet's photo.


3) Fill out the downloadable adoption application​* and email it to our team at PSD-ACCSupport@pbc.gov.

 

4) Once we've reviewed your e-mailed application, a team member will contact you to confirm that you have been approved to adopt.

Important things to consider:

Adoption fees are $60 for adult dogs, $75 for puppies, and $50 for cats and kittens. Residents of Palm Beach County, 55 years and older, are offered a discounted adoption fee.

All adopted animals will be spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, protected again fleas and ticks, microchipped, and much more!

When coming to pick up your new pet, you must bring a leash and suitably sized collar for dogs or a suitably sized kennel (usually small for kittens or medium for adult cats) for cats.  If you do not bring the needed animal supplies, you will be charged for a leash ($5.00) and/or collar ($5.00) or a cat carrier ($8.00).

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control has many wonderful furry companions waiting to share a lifetime of love with you and your family. Visit our shelter to find your new best friend.

Choosing a pet is not easy - we have a large selection! Most of the animals available for adoption are hearty mixed breeds. However, purebreds are always available. Our adoption specialists will help match your lifestyle and needs with the dog or cat that suits you best. When you have found a pet you are interested in, staff will take your family members and the pet to our special 'get-acquainted' area.

All animals are adopted to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. Adoption fees are $60 for adult dogs, $75 for puppies, and $50 for cats and kittens. Residents of Palm Beach County, 55 years and older, are offered a discounted adoption fee.

All adopted animals will be spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, protected again fleas and ticks, microchipped, and much more!

The shelter has also partnered with local veterinarians to provide a free Health Care Certificate with every adoption. The certificate offers a free exam for your pet from your choice of participating veterinarians and has a value of up to $500 in savings.

How to Adopt:

Pet adoptions are not handled by phone or e-mail. Please visit our shelter to view and interact with the adoptable pets before making a final decision about adoption.

If you have questions, feel free to contact the Adoption Office by calling 561-233-1272 during business hours. If you live in the Boca/Delray area call, 561-276-1344 ext. 41272. If you live in Belle Glade/Pahokee area, call  561-924-5656 and ask for the Adoption Office.

NOTE:  The animals available for adoption are subject to change without notice. Animals may be placed in the PetPal Adoption Program at any time during the day.

Here are some of the requirements to adopt animals from Animal Care and Control:

  • You must complete an adoption application, which will be fully reviewed with you by professional staff. All required fees must be paid in advance before the animal is released.

  • The animal may not be sterilized at the time of adoption and will need to be scheduled for spaying or neutering usually the following day. Once sterilized, the animal will be released to the new adopter the day after the spay or neuter surgery.

  • You must be eighteen years of age and have a valid photo identification. You must also show proof of current address (e.g., Florida driver's license, recent utility bill, etc.).

  • Certain animals MAY require an "in-home" visit by an Animal Control Officer prior to release.

  • All adopted dogs and cats must have a collar and license tag attached, leash and/or carrying cage before being released from the shelter.

  • If you rent, you must provide the name of your and phone number of the landlord and the landlord must approve of the animal being on the property/in the house.

  • We accept MasterCard, VISA, local personal imprinted check or cash.

Location:

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is located at 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, Florida 33411 approximately 5 miles west of I-95, and immediately west of the Florida Turnpike overpass.

Adoption Hours:

Main facility in West Palm Beach Monday - Friday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Please arrive at least 30 minutes before closing so the entire adoption process can be completed. Staff and volunteers try to find the best match for every animal and person. This involves carefully reviewing your application, performing landlord verifications where applicable and discussing with you how you plan to care for your new pet.

ADOPTION DISCLAIMER

Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control makes a substantial effort to assure that adoptable animals are in good health. It is possible, however, that undetectable illnesses or conditions may be present or incubating at the time of adoption. Therefore, Animal Care and Control does not make any guarantee as to age, behavior, breed, health, temperament or ultimate size of any animal.

Pre-Adoption Program:

In order to place more homeless pets into loving homes, we are now accepting pre-adoption applications for the dogs in our stray-holding kennel. All pre-adoptions are regular price - $60 adult dogs, $75 puppies - and non-refundable.

To place a pre-adoption:

  • You must come to the shelter.
  • Be approved for adoption and pay the adoption fee.
  • Wait for the stray hold to be finished (minimum 4 days).
  • Adoption is only finalized if the owner does not come in to redeem the pet within the designated stray hold period.
  • All pets will be spayed or neutered before going to their adoptive home.

Please note: refunds will not be given in the event the dog is redeemed by its original owner. You will have the option to select another pet or you will be issued an adoption voucher valid for use within six months.
