Thursday, June 22, 2023 | Rollup Image | | Body | STUDENT POSITION Posting Date: June 22, 2023 Job Description Palm Beach County's Office of Resilience (OOR) works to ensure that Palm Beach County remains a thriving, sustainable community while facing climate change. OOR focuses on equitable climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development. The OOR intern will join a small, innovative, passionate team to support program and policy development for a large county government. Intern Activities - Research Projects – (40%)
- Research best practices for including sustainability and resiliency in land use planning and comprehensive plan elements.
- Review green building standards including Enterprise Green Communities Criteria to identify best practices for developing resilient housing.
- Research and analyze resilience and sustainability technical reports and articles.
- Communications (40%)
- Draft articles for and produce OOR Monthly Newsletter.
- Develop content for social media, press releases, and presentations.
- Support staff and tabling events.
- Administrative Support (20%)
- Perform general office tasks that include scanning files, making copies, and scheduling meetings.
- Assist in event setup and breakdown.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skills Required - Strong research and analysis skills
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Experience with project management
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision while also being an effective team collaborator
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook, social media, and videoconferencing
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
Preferred - Graduate student
- Ability to occasionally attend evening and weekend events
- Passion for sustainability, resilience, climate change mitigation and adaptation, environmental science or policy, public health, and/or social equity
- Coursework, leadership experience, and/or career goals in sustainability, community engagement, environmental science, environmental law, land use planning, architecture, or a related field
- Experience with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Mail Chimp
Candidate Requirements - MUST BE AN ENROLLED COLLEGE/GRADUATE STUDENT.
- Must be able to work on-site. This is not a remote position.
- Work at least 16 hours per week.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds and work outside on occasion.
- Personal vehicle is not required, though the student is responsible for getting to and from the office location and occasional off-site events. A valid driver's license is required. A Florida driver's license is preferred.
Benefits This position will pay $14 per hour. Alternatively, the Office of Resilience welcomes the opportunity to work with students and their academic institutions to obtain course credit.
