Palm Beach County Joins FPL's SolarTogether

Body

Last week, Palm Beach County preregistered to join Florida Power and Light's SolarTogether program, slated to begin early next year.

The SolarTogether program works by allowing large electricity consumers to subscribe on a per-kilowatt basis for off-site solar power. This subscription is invested in building solar power plants in Florida. When these solar power plants begin to produce energy, the subscriber receives credit for electricity produced. FPL expects the program to pay back participants in 5-7 years, after which the total benefits will exceed the total costs. Thus, the County should save money in the long run while investing in safe, clean energy.

Florida's Public Service Commission must still approve the program, which FPL anticipates will happen later in 2019. FPL expects to launch the program in early 2020.
