The Palm Beach County (PBC) Reentry Task Force was established in 2008 under the auspices of the Palm Beach County Criminal Justice Commission (CJC). Its purpose was to implement the Countywide Reentry Strategic Plan, which focused on improving public safety, reducing recidivism, decreasing victimization, and enhancing the quality of life for Palm Beach County residents.


The Task Force accomplished these goals by promoting a coordinated, seamless continuum of services for adults and youth returning from incarceration. Through collaboration among state and local agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders, services were designed to support individuals from incarceration through transition, community reintegration, and aftercare.


In 2017, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) approved a resolution transferring oversight of the Reentry Task Force to the Palm Beach County Public Safety Department. The Task Force maintained its collaborative structure, consisting of voting and advisory members representing public and private agencies, nonprofit organizations, reentry advocates, individuals with lived experience, and community members.


To address the most significant barriers to successful reentry, the Task Force established seven standing subcommittees focused on:


  • Youth Reentry

  • Housing

  • Employment

  • Behavioral Health

  • Sexual Offenses

  • Faith-Based Engagement

  • Sustainability


As reentry efforts continued to evolve and community engagement expanded, members recognized the value of transitioning from a county-appointed task force to a broader community-led coalition that would foster greater representation, collaboration, and shared ownership of reentry initiatives.


In September 2025, the Reentry Task Force voted to recommend dissolving the Task Force. In November 2025, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners approved the recommendation by discontinuing the resolution governing the Task Force.


Effective January 2026, a newly formed Palm Beach Reentry Alliance officially launched as a community-led collaborative. The Alliance is dedicated to bringing together stakeholders, and individuals with lived experience, from across Palm Beach County to strengthen partnerships, coordinate resources, advocate for effective reentry practices, and improve outcomes for individuals returning from incarceration, their families, and the community.
