For ease of discussion, the Project and its components have been divided into a northern section and a southern section. Each section is comprised of one island, one bird nesting mound, multiple oyster reefs, a submerged seagrass shelf and red mangrove habitat. The area between the north and south sections is being left open in its existing state.
North Section
The contractor is putting the finishing touches on the last portion of the rock wave break structure around the island and planted the interior of the island with over 10,000 red mangrove propagules second week of November.
South Section
The contractor continues delivering, stockpiling and grading sand in this section in order to form the oyster reefs, submerged seagrass shelf and island. As they continue to deliver sand and rocks over the next several weeks they will repeat the same process used to construct the north section.
