3 Easy Tips for More Fiber

Back to Nutrition and Wellness

  1. Try to include more beans in your menu planning. Chili and bean soups are easy to make and always a favorite. Beans are one of the most heart healthy foods. They are naturally low in sodium and fat and high in fiber, soluble fiber and plant sterols which help lower cholesterol.

  2. Include root vegetables, including sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrots and beets which are good sources of soluble fiber. Make soups or stews using these vegetables. Consider including raw carrots and beets with salads to add color and flavor.

  3. Add apples, grapes and pears to slaws and salads. Apples and pears, along with citrus fruits, are highest in soluble fiber among fruits.
