Division, municipalities, and the Census Bureau. Due to delayed responses from
various sources, the quarterly Building Permits Report is generally posted on
this webpage by the end of the next quarter.
The second page of the
Report contains data comparing the most recent quarter with the same quarter in
the previous year. The percentile change between two quarters may or may not be
reflective of a longer-term trend. Housing permits typically point to potential
future construction activity and retail purchases, and are therefore considered
to be a significant leading economic indicator.
