Youth Services Department Kicks Off FY2025 with Community-Based Agencies

Body

On October 24, 2024, the Youth Services Department's Outreach & Community Programming (OCP) Division hosted the fiscal year 2025 Community-Based Agencies (CBAs) Kickoff Meeting at the Clayton E. Hutcheson Agricultural Services Center. The event brought together community partners to align efforts for the upcoming year and celebrate new collaborations.

The meeting opened with a Sanctuary® Community Meeting, setting a positive and collaborative tone. The OCP team warmly welcomed new partner agencies — ChildNet, Connect to Greatness, and Youth Empowered to Prosper — each of whom introduced their programs and representatives.

Valerie Messineo, OCP Senior Program Specialist, provided key updates on programmatic requirements, critical dates, and gathered valuable feedback from attendees to improve the annual report and logic model processes. Attendees were also introduced to a new Close-Out Meeting process for programs that ended in September 2024, focusing on the Sanctuary® and S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotions, Loss and Future) frameworks. These meetings will help grantees and YSD staff process the end of contract periods more effectively.

Tamia Williams, OCP Senior Program Specialist, OCP highlighted the Summer Camp Scholarship Program, encouraging agencies to participate as summer camp providers, assist families with the application process, and promote the program within their communities.

The importance of involvement in Birth to 22 initiatives was also emphasized, with an overview of support opportunities and ways for agencies to contribute. OCP Program Coordinators JaVona Wilson and Wen Fils-Aime provided insights into the Birth to 22: Future Leaders Youth Council, as well as shared exciting updates about My Brother's Keeper and two major conferences planned for early 2025.

Following the main meeting, participants had the option to attend a two-hour training session at the YSD Training Room (Four Points office location). The session offered a hands-on introduction to the CBA Portal and best practices for submitting monthly and quarterly reports. Ty Hall, Financial Analyst III, from the Finance, Contracting & Administrative Services Division (FCA), provided a comprehensive overview of the Services and Activities Management Information System (SAMIS), answering frequently asked questions and addressing common invoice errors.
