Working in the Community Risk Reduction Division and under the direction of the Office of the Fire Marshal, is the Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosive Investigations. The bureau is comprised of a Captain who oversees and supervises five full-time fire/arson/explosive investigators. The bureau is responsible for providing twenty-four hour investigative services to the citizens and visitors of Palm Beach County. Their mission is to perform thorough investigations into the origin and cause of fire and explosion scenes, as well as, the preservation of the scene and collection of evidence. The Bureau of Fire, Arson, and Explosive Investigations responds to all areas serviced by the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue.
All of the investigators assigned to the bureau are sworn law enforcement officers through the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and serve as members on the Palm Beach County Bomb/Arson Task Force. The task force has law enforcement authority to make arrests, carry firearms, and present cases to the Office of the State Attorney, 15th Judicial Circuit, in prosecution of any fire/arson/explosive crimes. The investigators are professionally qualified to provide expert witness testimony in both criminal and civil cases.
