On Friday, December 6, 2023, our inspection staff performed the initial inspection for acceptance of the rebar and Bidwell measurements. PBC inspection staff looked for concrete cover and overall thickness. If there was any variation from the target numbers, the contractor would have to adjust the rebar, the rebar chairs and/or the Bidwell. They will also look for any debris under the rebar in the forms, check for the straightness of the rebar and splice lengths, and verify all bars are tied properly. This inspection was ongoing throughout the day on Friday. If the contractor fails inspection for any reason, they will start over from the beginning again starting Saturday morning and we will have staff present. The contractor plans to place concrete on the eastbound bridge section at 1 a.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023 subject to passing inspection and weather conditions.
