What is the Community Action Advisory Board?

The Community Action Block Grant Contract (CSBG) requires the establishment of a Community Action Advisory Board. The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners created the first Community Action Advisory Board (CAAB) in 1974 in order to receive CSBG funding from the Florida Department of Commerce (formerly known as Florida Department of Economic Opportunity).

What does the Community Action Advisory Board do?

Board members are required to fully participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Community Action Block Grant Programs, such as energy assistance programs and vocational training programs, that are created to serve low-income communities in Palm Beach County. This is consistent with BCC Resolution No. R-2018-0372 adopted April 10, 2018, amending Resolution No. R2014-0588, per Section 3-A1.

Who participates in the Community Action Advisory Board?

CAAB is comprised of 15 total members. Five members are elected public officials or their appointees. Five members are representatives of business, industry, health, education, or other major groups or interests. Five members are representatives of the low-income areas served.

When does the Community Action Advisory Board meet?

Every year, Quarterly Board Meetings are typically held at 5:30 pm on the second Wednesday of February, May, August and November.

Can the public attend a Community Action Advisory Board meeting?

CAAB meetings are open to the public. The location will be posted on this webpage and on Palm Beach County Community Services Department social media sites in addition to the information boards of various community partners.
