The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) awarded one of its top awards to the Palm Beach County Department of Housing and Economic Sustainability (DHES) in the category of Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) Program of 3 Years of More. The honor was presented at an awards ceremony during the IEDC annual conference.
“It is an honor to receive this award on behalf of Palm Beach County," said DHES Deputy Director Sherry Howard. “This program shows that public private partnerships can improve the community, strengthen and diversify the economy and increase the Palm Beach County tax base. We are thankful for the support of the Board of County Commissioners, County Administration and especially the hard work by the Economic Development team at the core of these initiatives."
DHES assists a broad range of businesses in Palm Beach County through the administration of grants, loans, bonds and technical assistance. The goal is to increase economic activity and create jobs by stimulating business development and investment. These programs are used to leverage the amount of private financing. The programs have generated $8.4 Billion to the local economy, leveraged $113 billion in federal, state and private funding and is expected to create approximately 17,000 jobs.
Palm Beach County's business and economic development programs, housed in the Department of Housing & Economic Sustainability, uses business-focused economic development tools to advance community stainability, by increasing economic competitiveness and helping create and retain high quality jobs within Palm Beach County. The programs available are to best serve businesses; strengthen and diversify the economic environment; and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
