Representatives with the Building Division and Fire Rescue Department kicked off the 43rd Annual Building Safety Month at the Marjorie S. Fisher Boys & Girls Club in West Palm Beach on May 1st.

Plans Examiner Warren Neal and Fire Safety Specialist Fatou Benoit spoke to over 100 enthusiastic club members about the importance of home safety measures.  For example, they discussed the role of building inspectors in ensuring the structural safety of our homes and how to spot potential hazards such as frayed power cords.  They also provided instructions for calling 911 and how to safely exit in case of a fire or other emergencies.

The program included fun activities including puzzles and word games and a visit with firefighters from nearby Station 23.

Building Safety Month is a worldwide campaign presented by the International Code Council to promote building safety.  This year’s theme, “It Starts with YOU”, raises awareness about the role we all play in ensuring safety in the spaces in which we live, work and learn.
