Body

On May 21, 2024, staff from the Palm Beach County Planning, Zoning, and Building Department’s (PZB) Building Division met with over 30 students at the Florence De George Boys and Girls Club of West Palm Beach to discuss the importance of Building Safety Month and career opportunities. All the attendees were part of the Career Bound program for middle and high school students.

The Building Division staff included Building Coordinator Michael Gauger, Construction Inspector Apprentice Skyler Foley, and Plans Specialist Kareem Graham.

Skyler Foley shared his experience as a paid apprentice, emphasizing the benefits of earning an income while studying for exams and being mentored by seasoned inspectors. He also discussed the growth opportunities available with the county.

Kareem Graham talked about his journey from starting as a Customer Service Specialist to his recent promotion to Plans Specialist II, highlighting benefits such as tuition reimbursement.

Michael Gauger provided an overview of the Building Division's responsibilities, particularly the importance of building safety. The students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage one-on-one with the staff members.
