May is Building Safety Month!

Building Safety Month is an international campaign celebrated each May to raise awareness about the importance of building safety.
The Planning, Zoning & Building Department (PZB) — through its Building Division — plays a vital role in safeguarding life and property in unincorporated areas of the County. This is achieved by enforcing building codes, reviewing construction plans, issuing permits, and conducting thorough inspections.
Why are building codes important?  Building codes are designed to protect lives by ensuring structures are built to withstand everyday use and extreme events.
With the increasing threat of natural disasters — including hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires — building safety has never been more critical. According to FEMA’s National Risk Index, nearly 100% of the U.S. population is at risk of exposure to a natural hazard. No matter where you live, building safety matters.
