VOLUNTEER EVENT (WEEKDAY EVENT)

What: Trash Removal

Where: Pondhawk Natural Area – Boca Raton

Site Information: http://discover.pbcgov.org/erm/NaturalAreas/Pondhawk.aspx

When: Wednesday, April 28, 2021

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Directions: From I-95 exit at Yamato Road - head west on Yamato Road to Military Trail - turn left and head south on Military Trail to Spanish River Boulevard – turn left and head east on Spanish River Boulevard for roughly ½ mile – turn left into the parking lot of the Boca Raton Spanish River Library (1501 NW Spanish River Blvd.) – look for a white County truck to locate the volunteer meeting area (this will be on the far west side of the parking lot near the bridge to keep the parking spaces closer to the library entrance open for the library patrons).

Additional Information: Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes as we will be working in brush-filled areas. Pants are recommended, along with sneakers or hiking boots, t-shirts, and hats. Poison ivy is found at this natural area. Restroom facilities are available inside the library. The Department will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers. Event participation is limited to the first 12 volunteers who register.

Register: The volunteer projects are designed for volunteers ages 16 and older. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Volunteers can register for an ERM event by calling 561-233-2426 or emailing amathews@pbcgov.org. Thanks for helping the Department keep Palm Beach County clean and green.

Important Reminder: We are doing things a bit different because of Covid 19. Please read the following bulleted items:
  • Group Size – We are limited to 15 people per cleanup. This number includes any staff helping with the event. So depending on the event the number of volunteers allowed to register may be from 12 to 14 people. Please register early if you want to help – and if you have to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible so your spot can be given to another volunteer.
  • Safety Equipment – Please bring a mask with you. This does not mean you have to wear it during the entire event. Volunteers will need to wear a mask when 6 feet of distance can’t be maintained (for example, when volunteers are transported around the site).
  • Gloves and Water Bottles – Please bring your own gloves and a water bottle. I will have gloves and cups with me in case people forget – but having your own equipment reduces physical interaction with staff and other volunteers.
