Description

VOLUNTEER EVENT (WEEKDAY EVENT)

What: Removing trash from Living Shoreline mangrove planters located along Lake Worth Lagoon estuary

Where: Currie Park – North Flagler and 23rd Street, West Palm Beach

When: Wednesday, April 21, 2021

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Starting later due to tides – need to do cleanup during low tide)

Directions: From I-95 exit at Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. - head east to Flagler Drive - turn left and head north on Flagler Drive for roughly one mile – the entrance to Currie Park is on the right – volunteers will meet at the south boat ramp near the fishing pier.

Additional Information: Volunteers should wear clothing they don’t mind getting wet and dirty. Volunteers will use ladders to reach the mangrove planters. Restroom facilities are available at Currie Park. The Department will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers. Event participation is limited to the first 12 volunteers who register.

Register: The volunteer projects are designed for volunteers ages 16 and older. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Volunteers can register for an ERM event by calling 561-233-2426 or emailing amathews@pbcgov.org. Thanks for helping the Department keep Palm Beach County clean and green.

Important Reminder: We are doing things a bit different because of Covid 19. Please read the following bulleted items:
  • Group Size – We are limited to 15 people per cleanup. This number includes any staff helping with the event. So depending on the event the number of volunteers allowed to register may be from 12 to 14 people. Please register early if you want to help – and if you have to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible so your spot can be given to another volunteer.
  • Safety Equipment – Please bring a mask with you. This does not mean you have to wear it during the entire event. Volunteers will need to wear a mask when 6 feet of distance can’t be maintained (for example, when volunteers are transported around the site).
  • Gloves and Water Bottles – Please bring your own gloves and a water bottle. I will have gloves and cups with me in case people forget – but having your own equipment reduces physical interaction with staff and other volunteers.
