Description

VOLUNTEER EVENT

What: Remove trash from public-use facilities and mangroves

Where: Ocean Ridge Natural Area in Ocean Ridge

When: Thursday, October 22, 2020

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Directions: Since Ocean Ridge Natural Area does not have a parking lot, we are meeting at Ocean Ridge Hammock Park (Palm Beach County Parks & Recreation property) – 6620 N. Ocean Blvd. in Boynton Beach. From I-95 exit at Boynton Beach Blvd. - head east to U.S. Highway 1 - turn right and head south to Ocean Ave. – turn left and head east to A1A (S. Ocean Blvd) – turn left on A1A and drive north for roughly one mile – Ocean Ridge Hammock Park entrance is on right (you will pass by Oceanfront Park – a City of Boynton Beach park that charges for parking – do not park there) -  look for white county vehicle (will be an Explorer) to find volunteer meeting area. I will then drive volunteers to Ocean Ridge Natural Area.

Additional Information: Volunteers should wear old clothes and shoes as we will be working in brush-filled and muddy areas. We will clean up trash washed into the trees, shrubs, and mangroves growing by the public-use facilities and Lake Worth Lagoon. Hats and sunscreen are recommended. Restroom facilities are not available at the site. The Department will supply tools, gloves, and refreshments. Event participation is limited to the first 6 volunteers who register.

Registration: The volunteer projects are designed for volunteers ages 16 and older. Volunteers 15 and under must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Volunteers can register for an ERM event by calling 561-233-2426 or emailing amathews@pbcgov.org. Thanks for helping the Department keep Palm Beach County clean and green.

Important Reminders: We are doing things a bit different because of Covid 19. Please read the following bulleted items:

1. Group Size – We are limited to 10 people per cleanup. This number includes any staff helping with the event. So depending on the event the number of volunteers allowed to register may be 7, 8 or 9. Please register early if you want to help – and if you have to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible so your spot can be given to another volunteer.

2. Safety Equipment – Please bring a mask with you. This does not mean you have to wear it during the entire event. Volunteers will need to wear a mask when 6 feet of distance can’t be maintained (for example, when volunteers are transported around the site).

3. Gloves and Water Bottles – Please bring your own gloves and a water bottle. I will have gloves and cups with me in case people forget – but having your own equipment reduces physical interaction with staff and other volunteers.
