Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works (EPW) is pleased to announce that the 6th Avenue South Bridge will reopen to traffic at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 31, 2024. This significant $11 million infrastructure project involved the complete demolition and reconstruction of the entire bridge spanning Lake Osborne near the Lake Worth Beach area. Construction began in February 2022 and included additional essential infrastructure improvements such as a new stormwater management system, sidewalks, curbs, guardrails, new mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls, and a buffered bike lane along the 6th Avenue South roadway.

While the bridge reconstruction was completed in August 2024, a preliminary walkthrough revealed a damaged stormwater pipe. This required further work by the contractors. EPW has worked diligently with the contractors and the Engineer of Record to address these concerns, ensuring the bridge's structural integrity and long-term reliability. Comprehensive ground penetrating radar tests and a thorough analysis, conducted at no additional cost to the County, have verified that the 6th Avenue South Bridge is now safe for vehicular traffic.

EPW appreciates the community's patience and understanding throughout this extensive project. This initiative emphasizes EPW's ongoing commitment to enhancing the safety and efficiency of Palm Beach County's transportation network and infrastructure.
