Body

Ornamental bedding plants that can thrive in summer heat include coleus, salvia, torenia, wax begonia, and ornamental pepper. Summer loving herbs include Mexican tarragon, ginger, cumin, summer savory, and rosemary. Plant sweet potatoes, boniato, okra, southern peas, hot peppers, and tropical Malabar and New Zealand spinach. Tropical fruits ready to pick in May include banana, canistel, fig, grumichama, guava, jackfruit, lychee, mango, papaya, passion fruit, pineapple, sapodilla, and tamarind. It is a good time now to plant. Water thoroughly once per day to get new plantings off to a good start. Water daily for three weeks then reduce watering by one less day at 3 week intervals until you water only once per week.
