On Tuesday, July 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., more than 100 Summer Camp participants, Palm Beach County staff, and Project Seahorse for Kids volunteers will gather at Phil Foster Park to swim and snorkel under the Blue Heron Bridge.
Snorkel Day is a result of a summer-long partnership between Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation and Project Seahorse for Kids, where 98 Palm Beach County teenagers at Westgate, West Boynton and West Jupiter Recreation Centers will learn to swim and snorkel, become comfortable wearing fins and snorkel masks, and learn about marine life and ways to contribute to conservation initiatives.
Project Seahorse for Kids teaches marine education to Palm Beach County kids and teens and encourages safe water practices and physical activity by teaching kids and teens to swim and snorkel. The goal of this partnership is to inspire youth to become stewards of the environment and encourage outdoor physical activity and water safety while allowing youth to discover unique marine life in Palm Beach County.
Phil Foster Park is located at 900 East Blue Heron Boulevard in Riviera Beach. The Blue Heron Bridge area is internationally recognized by scientists, scuba divers, underwater photographers, and snorkelers for its abundance of unique marine life. Squid, octopus, spotted rays, and starfish are regularly seen. A snorkel trail made of limestone boulders and prefabricated reef modules spans a two-acre area in 6 to 10 feet of water.
