Created simultaneously with renovations to improve the facility’s hurricane resistance, Gary L. Moore’s design concept was inspired by the force and constant movement of hurricane winds. The artwork’s title references four points of a compass and wind rushing through the building’s front door.

As visitors enter, the floor’s design surrounds them with a burst of pure white, symbolizing powerful gusts of wind entering the building. The terrazzo floor is a rush of vibrant colors and patterns, influenced by the sub-tropical visual flavor of South Florida; its cerulean blue skies, turquoise waters, green bamboo leaves, yellow and orange sun tones, and sand. In contrast, the second floor‘s stark black and white represents abstracted street traffic.

Colorful kinetic window patterns cast rich hues into the space, while fused glass sculptures represent objects blown onto the walls.
